 RUDD BAND

Welcome to Rudd Middle School Band!

 

The Rudd Middle School Band Program is designed to:

  • Provide each student with a comprehensive music education, while teaching the skills and attitudes necessary to succeed as a young musician and as a young adult.
  • Benefit the school and community through public performances of quality music, while promoting and enhancing the dignity and reputation of Rudd Middle School.
  • Foster the development of essential character traits to include a strong work ethic, personal integrity, a commitment to excellence, and respect for self and others.
  • Provide each student with a positive emotional outlet, a good social experience, and a worthy use of leisure time

 Joey Harbison, Director of Bands

Mr. Harbison has been with the Jefferson County Board of Education for the past 24 years and has been the Band Director at Rudd Middle School for the past 10 years. Prior to his present position at Rudd Middle School, he was the Assistant Director to Pinson Valley High School and Rudd Middle School for 1 year. Other positions include; Band Director at West Jefferson High School for 4 years, the Assistant Director at Hewitt Trussville High School for 5 years and the Band Director at Hewitt Trussville Middle School for 4 years. He is a highly qualified teacher with a B.S. and a Masters Degree in Music Education from Jacksonville State University. He, his wife Sheri, and son Les attend the First Baptist Church of Trussville where Mr. Harbison also serves as the Instrumental Director and FOH Sound Tech. His professional affiliations include Music Educators National Conference, Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Mr. Harbison was inducted into National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers in 2005-2006.

 UPCOMING EVENTS

 

Solo & Ensemble Festival

  • Saturday, May 5, 2012
  • Open to all students: 6th  8th grade  (It is not required but encouraged)
  • This is a Festival where individuals or small groups are scored on the basis of how well they play a given piece of music.
  • All students who receive a superior rating will receive a medal.
  • It will be held at Thompson Middle School.  We will not have specific times until the week before the event.  We will be taking a bus for any students who need a ride.  (Travel forms must be signed to ride & students must have money to eat at a fast food restaurant)
  • The cost is $5.00 per event.  Students may do up to four events (solo, duets, trio, etc.) but only one solo per instrument.
  • Music must be classically oriented.
  • Advanced & Intermediate members may choose their own music with approval from the band directors.
  • Beginners will be given music to fit their skill level.
  • The deadline for entry and payment is Wednesday, March 28, 2012.

 

Spring Band Concert

  • Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
  • Required for all band students.
  • Concert begins at 7:00PM – students must be here by 6:30PM for roll and warm-up.
  • Beginners will wear band t-shirts with long pants.
  • Intermediate and Advanced Bands will wear complete uniform.
